Two-Level Volume Rendering

چکیده
ÐIn this paper, we present a two-level approach for volume rendering, i.e., two-level volume rendering, which allows for selectively using different rendering techniques for different subsets of a 3D data set. Different structures within the data set are rendered locally on an object-by-object basis by either DVR, MIP, surface rendering, value integration (x-ray-like images), or nonphotorealistic rendering. All the results of subsequent object renderings are combined globally in a merging step (usually compositing in our case). This allows us to selectively choose the most suitable technique for depicting each object within the data while keeping the amount of information contained in the image at a reasonable level. This is especially useful when inner structures should be visualized together with semitransparent outer parts, similar to the focus-plus-context approach known from information visualization. We also present an implementation of our approach which allows us to explore volumetric data using two-level rendering at interactive frame rates. First Steps in Hardware Two-Level Volume Rendering
We describe first steps toward implementing two-level volume rendering (abbreviated as 2lVR) on consumer PC graphics hardware. Two-level volume rendering allows to combine local per-object rendering modes, like direct volume rendering (DVR) and maximum intensity projection (MIP), with a global compositing mode for combining the contributions of different objects embedded in a segmented volume d...
متن کاملSegmentation Assisted Object Distinction for Direct Volume Rendering
Ray Casting is a direct volume rendering technique for visualizing 3D arrays of sampled data. It has vital applications in medical and biological imaging. Nevertheless, it is inherently open to cluttered classification results. It suffers from overlapping transfer function values and lacks a sufficiently powerful voxel parsing mechanism for object distinction. In this work, we are proposing an ...
متن کاملSpatial Relationship between Mandibular Third Molars and Inferior Alveolar Nerve using a Volume Rendering Software
Precise localization of the third molars in relation to the inferior alveolar nerve canal is critical from a clinical point of view and strongly affects the surgical treatment outcome. Recently, by using three-dimensional modeling software, the relationship of third molar root apices and inferior alveolar nerve canal can be better understood. In this study, the spatial relationship of two surgi...
متن کاملA Two-Level Differential Volume Rendering Method for Time-Varying-Volume-Data
The differential volume rendering method is a ray casting based method for time-varying-volume-data. In the differential volume rendering method, the changed fractions of volume data between consecutive time steps are extracted to form differential files. Based on the differential files, only the changed pixels, instead of all the pixels in the image, are updated by casting new rays at the posi...
متن کاملPerceptual enhancement of two-level volume rendering
We present a system for interactive visualisation of 3D volumetric medical datasets combined with perceptual evaluation of how such visualizations can affect a user's interpretation of scenes and attention. Enhancements to traditional volume renderings are provided through a two-level volume rendering strategy which employs fast GPU-base Direct Volume Rendering (DVR) coupled with an additional ...
